I must confess, I had no idea I would one day assume the role of Real Estate Associate. True, way before I took the course,I have had a long time obsession with HGTV, watching programmes such as, House Hunters, Sell this House, Moving Up, Flip this House and my most favorite Property Virgins.
After purchasing my second home, I converted to a landlord with a keen interest to protect investment. I became actively interested in the ins and out of residential property and was un-officially giving my friends advice on what is a good price for a particular location.
Soon, like all the major paths I have travelled in my professional life, a friend suggested I take the Real Estate Course at The University of Technology. In her words, “You have the personality for it”. I decided to take the course, I figured as a landlord I could learn valuable information, still no intention to take on a formal role as Agent!
My first day of “school” we were each asked to state our name and reason for wanting to do the Salesman Course. I introduced myself and declared my reason ” So as to keep that 5% commission in my own pocket, rather than pay it to an Agent and their Broker! Of course, the room was not assumed by my “hypocrisy”, Talk about irony! now here I am 6 months later, Real Estate Associate.
